Nakuru, Saturday, August 15, 2026 – Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) underlined its role in advancing sportsmanship, wellness and institutional partnerships by sponsoring this year’s third series of the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association (KDFGA) tournament, staged under the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Calendar at Nakuru Golf Club.
The tournament, which coincided with the ongoing commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K), attracted an impressive field of more than 250 golfers, bringing together military officers, professionals, corporate partners and members of the golfing fraternity.
KSL, a consistent partner since the inaugural series, reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration and institutional linkages by sponsoring the event. The State corporation also used the tournament to showcase its products and services and interact with participants, extending its stakeholder engagement beyond its core maritime operations.
The company, which operates under the Ministry of Defence, is mandated to catalyse the development of the shipbuilding industry in Eastern Africa through ship construction, repair, maintenance, refit and other maritime services.
NDU-K Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General David Tarus, who took part in the tournament, thanked Nakuru Golf Club and the sponsors for supporting the event.
“Your gesture exemplified partnerships as a drive to boosting sports and broader national development goals,” Lt Gen Tarus said.
He described golf as a sport whose lessons extend beyond the fairways.
“Golfing inculcates discipline, strategy and patience, teaching us that success is not achieved through individual effort. It provides ability to focus even on challenging circumstances,” he said.
Professional golfer John Kamais, one of the leading players who interacted with KSL during the tournament, highlighted the importance of competitive golf in creating opportunities for sporting excellence while providing a platform for corporate engagement and networking.
The tournament featured competition across several categories, including special contests for KDF personnel, veterans, seniors and junior golfers, with winners receiving awards and other prizes.
KDFGA Chairperson Brigadier Victor Kang’ethe commended the golfers for their commitment and sportsmanship, saying the strong turnout demonstrated the growing appeal of the tournament.
He said the event reaffirmed KDF’s commitment to promoting sport as an avenue for strengthening unity and esprit de corps among participants.
The annual tournament has grown into an important fixture in NDU-K’s wellness program, promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and camaraderie while providing a meeting point for professional networking and institutional bonding.
For KSL, participation goes beyond corporate sponsorship. It reflects a wider stakeholder outreach approach that places partnerships, wellness and national development alongside the company’s expanding maritime mandate.
The company was recognised among the sponsors for supporting sportsmanship, wellness and institutional partnerships.
