Kenya Shipyards Limited signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the County Government of Lamu to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable maritime sector, infrastructure development and economic growth.
The MOU signed by MD KSL Maj Gen Said Farah and Lamu County Governor H.E. Issa Timamy, at Mokowe County Headquarters reaffirms KSL’s unparalleled vision and commitment to collaborate in several strategic areas such as construction of fishing and transport vessel the likes of GRP vessels, water ambulances and floating restaurants. The MOU further reiterates KSL’s unwavering dedication to shaping the maritime space of Lamu County through construction of resilient ashore infrastructures such as landing sites, quays, promenades and jetties. These infrastructure complement maritime activities towards achieving shared goals and aspirations of the SDG 14 on life below water.


The MOU also centered on lifecycle provision of maintenance and repairs of available fishing fleet to ensure availability of operational and seaworthy vessels in an effort to enhance efficiency in operations. As part of the cooperation, KSL will enhance security, safety and navigation through outfitting vessels constructed with safety and navigation features.
KSL will develop critical maritime infrastructure, construct one water ambulance, five deep sea fishing boats, 63 GRP boats and develop jetties and landing sites across strategic locations within the County.
The MOU is sure to unlock the full potential of maritime transport, enhance emergency response, fishing activities and create job opportunities contributing to economic growth and development of the County Government of Lamu.
